Katrīna Sataki, Deputy Head of Network Solution Division, Institute of Mathematics and Computer Science

Users – natural and legal persons – exploit various applications and reasonably expect the data they store on the cloud to be protected. However, the vague concept of the cloud and its international nature similar to the one of the Internet makes it hard to ensure the privacy and data protection to the extent required by national regulations or EU directive.
It also has to be noted that the cloud is a tempting target for attackers and the users of the cloud have to understand potential risks and take an informed decision to trust or not to trust their data to the cloud.
