Andris Vilks, Director, Latvia National Library

Dr Andris Vilks is director of the Latvian National Library, a post which he has held since 1989. He holds a doctorate in library and information science which he received from the University of Latvia at the University of Latvia. Prior to becoming the library’s director, he held a variety of positions in its Department of Rare Books and Manuscripts. Since 1992, Dr Vilks has taught at the Department of Library and Information Science of the University of Latvia. His research is focused on the history of books and, particularly, the sale of books, as well as on issues faced by libraries in post-Socialist countries. Dr Vilks has published extensively at the domestic and the international level.
