Signe Plūmiņa, director, Data State Inspectorate, Latvia

Signe Plūmiņa is director of Data State Inspectorate from 01.01.2001. From September 2004 until September 2005 she was project leader of Phare Twinning Project “Data State Inspectorate” for strengthening the administrative and institutional structure of the institution, Data State Inspectorate. From February 1994 until January 2001 she was senior legal adviser at the Ministry of Transport and Telecommunications, Legal Department. She is lawyer, field of specialisation: personal data protection, security of information systems, transport law, freedom of information, e-signature. 9 years in legal aspects of the national Data Protection laws and EC Data Protection Directives and their implementation and enforcement in Latvia. Signe Plumina has taken part in Article of 29 Working Party of Directive 95/46/EC, Joint Supervisory Authority’s of SIS, Europol, Customs Information System, Central and Eastern Europe Data Protection Commissioners meetings. She has also participated in different international conferences, seminars, symposiums that are related to personal data protection, freedom of information and information technologies. She is one of authors of book “Information and Telecommunication Law”, 2002.
